A Saudi expatriate was killed in a collision between his motorcycle and a battery-operated van at Chougachha on the Gangni-Kathuli road in Meherpur.
The road accident occurred at around 8pm Saturday on the Gangni-Kathuli road.
The deceased, Sagar Mia (24), was the son of Tojammal Hossain from Bhatpara village in Gangni Upazila.
Bani Israel, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station, said that the process of retrieving the body is ongoing.
One killed in road accident in the capital
According to locals, Sagar Mia was returning to Bhatpara from Gangni Bazar by motorcycle when he collided head-on with a battery-operated van coming from the opposite direction. As a result, Sagar Mia was thrown onto the road and severely injured. Although onlookers managed to take him to the Gangni Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
According to his family, Sagar Mia had returned home from Saudi Arabia four days ago for two months, with plans to get married. His wedding was scheduled for the day after Eid. He was returning home after shopping for his wedding during the incident in Gangni Bazar.
