A school student drowned in the sea at Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday morning, just nine days after three students of Chittagong University died in a similar incident.
The deceased was identified as Raiyan Noor Abu Samim, son of Md Ismail from the city's Boidyaghona area. He was a class eight student at Cox’s Bazar Government High School.
The incident occurred around 10 am at the Shaibal Point of the beach.

According to Raiyan's elder brother, Faiyan Noor Abu Ramim, he went to the beach with his friends to play football. After the game, they all went into the sea to bathe, during this time Raiyan drowned.
Some nearby fisherman noticed the incident and rushed to rescue him. They pulled him out of the water in an unconscious state and took him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Mohammad Osman, supervisor of Sea Safe Lifeguard, said swimming at Shaibal Point is prohibited and there are no lifeguards stationed in that area.
“We have repeatedly discouraged people from bathing at this dangerous spot,” he added.
Additional DIG of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police, Apel Mahmud, said, “Such incidents are tragic and avoidable. Despite repeated warnings, people continue to enter the sea at their own risk, leading to such unfortunate accidents.”
