Bangladesh has declared 2020-2021 as ‘Mujib Borsho’ to celebrate the birth centenary of the greatest Bangali of all time who led the nation to independence.
The birth centenary celebration will commence from March 17.
Bangabandhu stayed at room number 24 of Baker Hostel while studying at Kolkata’s Islamia College in 1942. He was elected as the general secretary of the students’ cabinet in 1946 and obtained BA degree from there.
At present, rooms 23 and 24 of the hostel are used as "Bangabandhu Memorial Museum".
During his student life, Bangabandhu stood by the famine-stricken people and distributed relief goods. He also participated in the hallway monument movement.
Bangabandhu actively took part in the Pakistan movement and risked his life trying to save people. A significant chapter of his political activities was written here.
