Foreign Ministry pays tribute to Bangabandhu marking March 7
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking the historic March 7.
Officials of the ministry, led by its Acting Secretary Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury, paid homage by placing wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhaka‘s Dhanmondi-32 around 6:30am, according to a media release of the ministry.

Secretary (Maritime Affairs Unit) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rear Admiral (Retd) Md Khurshed Alam, Inspector General of Missions, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Asad Alam Siam and other higher officials, among others, were present.

Awami League united under Sheikh Hasina's leadership: Quader
Minister for Road, Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said on Sunday that Awami League is united under the leadership of party President Sheikh Hasina.
He said this while talking to journalists after paying tribute at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi-32 in the capital.
Earlier, the newly-elected Awami League Central Working Committee and Advisory Council led by Premier Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman this morning.
“We elected the leadership in a democratic way at the conference; most of the senior leaders were reelected,” he said, adding that PM Sheikh Hasina understands the minds of party activists and leaders.

He observed that there are manifold challenges before the party centering the next national election, crisis being faced by the country due to global circumstances, militancy, and anti-government movement by the BNP.
The party president decided to keep the experienced leadership to face the upcoming challenges.
Quader said that he became general secretary of the party three times and his duties have increased.
“It is my fortune that I obtained responsibility of Awami League and it is the decision of the Premier Sheikh Hasina,” he added.

Edward Kennedy Jr’s message at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum visitors’ book
Edward M Kennedy Jr, son of the late US Senator Edward M Kennedy and nephew of late US President John F Kennedy, and his family visited Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka earlier yesterday.
In the visitors’ book at the museum, he left a heartfelt message.
The message reads: “We duly appreciate the hospitality and feelings of the people of Bangladesh — we are all tremendously moved by this museum of the memories of Sheikh family and role in the struggle for independence. I know how my father was to support the independence movement and raise his voice in the United States to get other countries to support your country at most critical time — this house is a testament to the sacrifices…”

Other signatories included his family members: Dr. Katherine Kennedy (wife), Dr Kiley Kennedy (daughter), Teddy Kennedy (son), Grace Kennedy Allen (niece), and Max Allen (nephew).
During the one-week visit to Bangladesh, the Kennedy family visited various cultural attractions and met with civil society representatives, US government-sponsored exchange programme alumni and Bangladesh government officials.

Indian President pays homage to Bangabandhu
Indian President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, the place which bears the testimony to the life and work of Bangabandhu.
Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Rehana accompanied President Kovind to visit the museum at Dhanmondi 32.
He signed the visitors' book kept there after paying respect to Bangabandhu.
Rehana also presented Kovind with a set of books.

Earlier, President Kovind visited the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar and placed wreathes there, paying tributes to the brave hearts of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
He arrived here on a three-day State visit as a “unique example” of the existing good relations between the two neighbouring countries.

Nation observing Bangabandhu’s anniversary of martyrdom in a somber mood
People across the country are observing the National Mourning Day on Sunday, the darkest chapter in the history of independent Bangladesh.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking the 46th anniversary of his martyrdom and the National Mourning Day on Sunday.
The prime minister paid homage to the Architect of the Independence by placing wreaths at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No 32.
After placing wreaths, the prime minister stood in solemn silence there for some time showing respect to the great leader and the great architect of Bangladesh’s independence.
A smartly turned out contingent of Bangladesh Armed Forces gave a state salute, while bugle played the tune of grief and somber to the last post.

A munajat was also offered seeking the eternal peace of the departed souls of the August 15 carnage.

AL volunteers front ushers in month of mourning
Awami Swechchasebak League started observing the month of National Mourning Day with a torch procession on Dhaka streets marching towards Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi at midnight Saturday.
Different political and socio-cultural organisations have also chalked out month-long programmes marking the occasion.
This year, the nation will observe National Mourning Day and the 44th anniversary of martyrdom of Bangabandhu.
Bangladesh Awami Jubo league will distribute the relief to the helpless people and needy people considering corona situation as part of month-long programme in the city while Krishak League will also launch blood donation programmes centrally at Banglabandhu Avenue on the day.
On 5 August, marking the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, floral wreaths will be placed at his portrait on the premises of Abahani Club at Dhanmondi at 8:30am while wreaths will be laid at his grave at Banani Graveyard at 9:15am.
On August 8, wreaths will be placed at her grave at Banani Graveyard at 9:00am to observe the birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib.
On August 15, marking the martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day, homage will be paid to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No. 32 at 8:30 am.
Homage will also be paid to other August 15 martyrs by laying wreaths at their graves at Banani Graveyard at 9:15am on that day.
An AL delegation will pay tributes to the Father of the Nation by placing wreaths at his mausoleum at Tungipara in Gopalganj at 11:00am on the day whileSpecial prayers will be arranged at all mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship across the country to observe the National Mourning Day.
Besides, a discussion will be arranged marking National Mourning Day at 3:30pm on August 16 at Bangabandhu Avenue whole on August 17, Dhaka city south units of AL will organise a discussion commemorating the countrywide series of bomb attacks that took place on the day in 2005.
The family members- Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, sons Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russell, daughters-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rosy Jamal, Bangabandhu’s brother Sheikh Naser, brother-in-law Abdur Rab Serniabat, nephew and eminent journalist Sheikh Fazlul Huq Moni, his pregnant wife Arzoo Moni and military secretary Colonel Jamil while Bangabandhu’s daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana escaped the assassination as they were in Germany.

2-day exhibition marking Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming begins in city
A two-day exhibition on information and news clipping marking the homecoming of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina began on Sunday on the premises of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi.
AL’s information and research affairs sub-committee arranged the exhibition titled "Sheikh Hasina's Four Decades: Irresistible Progress of Changed Bangladesh".
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader joined the inaugural programme as chief guest virtually while the party’s Advisory Council member Dr Mashiur Rahman presided over the meeting.
On May 17, 1981, Sheikh Hasina returned to the country after a long exile following the 1975 assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members.
Mentioning Sheikh Hasina as a popular political and development leader, Quader said the nation has come to know the true history of the Liberation War thanks to her.

He said the verdicts in Bangabandhu's murder case and war crimes trials have been executed because of Sheikh Hasina.
Quader noted that there had been peaceful resolution of border and enclave issues and the maritime dispute thanks to the Prime Minister. He said Bangladesh got the fair share of Ganges water thanks to her and hoped that other outstanding issues would also be resolved.
The Awami League leader said the construction of Padma Bridge with domestic funds is almost complete only because Sheikh Hasina returned home. Besides, works of other mega projects, especially Metrorail and Bangabandhu Tunnel, are ongoing.
Quader said Bangladesh has become a member of the exclusive club of satellite-owning countries led by Bangabandhu's daughter Hasina.
He said Bangladesh today is moving ahead of Pakistan in all socio-economic indicators except nuclear bomb under her leadership.
Quader termed the prime minister as the most successful, brave and humane statesman in post-75 Bangladesh and said Sheikh Hasina is the name of the most successful diplomat.

He said Sheikh Hasina has been able to keep the country at a stable level even during the coronavirus pandemic keeping in mind the life and livelihood of the people.
The Awami League leader said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has turned Bangladesh into a food-surplus country.
Organising Secretary Afzal Hossain, Information and Research Affairs Secretary Dr Selim Mahmud, Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua and other leaders of the Awami League's Information and Research Subcommittee were also present at Dhanmondi No. 32.
On the other hand, Dhaka City North unit of the party will arrange a discussion at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue at 11am on May 17 while its Dhaka City South unit will arrange a doa mahfil and discussion at Mahanagar Natyamancha at 3pm on that day marking the homecoming day.

Independence Day: PM Hasina pays homage to Bangabandhu
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Friday morning on the occasion of Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day.
On her return from the National Memorial at Savar, the Prime Minister paid homage to the Father of the Nation by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 in the city.
After placing the wreaths, she stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of deep respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of Bangladesh Independence.
Sheikh Rehana, the youngest daughter of Bangabandhu, was present on the occasion.

President of the Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday visited the National Martyrs’ Memorial and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhaka as part of his ongoing three-day state visit to Bangladesh. First Lady Fazna Ahmed accompanied him.
