A mobile court sentenced six people to jail after busting an adulterated milk factory in Keshabpur upazila of Jashore on Monday.
The drive was conducted at Pathorghata village under Panjia union by a joint team of Rab-6 (CPC-3) and the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection based on a tip-off.
Officials said the group was producing adulterated milk by mixing jelly, soybean oil and soda with cow’s milk.
The mobile court, led by Keshabpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Reksona Khatun, sentenced five people- Arup Ghosh, Ramprasad Ghosh, Buddhadeb Ghosh, Milon Ghosh and Swapan Ghosh to one year in jail each and fined them Tk 1 lakh each.
Another accused, Partha Ghosh, was sentenced to three months in jail and fined Tk 1 lakh.
During the drive, a large quantity of jelly, oil, soda and equipment used for producing adulterated milk was seized and later destroyed. Officials said such drives will continue to protect public health.
