A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed former Energy Advisor to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury on a four-day remand in Sumon Shikder murder case filed at the Badda Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the order when investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Rezaul Alam of Badda Police Station, filed a petition to place him on a 10-day remand.
The defense lawyer sought bail and argued for the cancellation of the remand.
Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury was arrested by a team of the Detective Branch (DB) from the Gulshan area at around 9:45 PM on Tuesday.
Sumon Shikder was killed in police firing during an anti-discrimination student movement on July 19 at Progati Sarani in Badda.
Sumon's mother Mashuma filed the murder case at Badda police station on August 20.
