The contractual appointment of Md. Ahsan Ullah, as the Advisor to the Governor of Bangladesh Bank, has been extended for another year.
The decision was approved by the Board of Directors of the central bank, according to official sources on Tuesday.
A veteran central banker, Md. Ahsan Ullah was first appointed as the Governor’s Advisor on January 6 last year. His career at Bangladesh Bank spans over 35 years, culminating in his retirement as the senior-most Executive Director.
Following his retirement, he contributed to the academic sector by joining the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) as a Supernumerary Professor. Known for his technical expertise and leadership, Ullah rose through the ranks at the central bank through merit-based promotions and is widely regarded as one of the institution's most efficient officials.

Ullah holds a distinguished academic record. He earned his Master’s degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University in the United States. Additionally, he holds an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, and an MA in English from Jahangirnagar University.
The extension of his tenure comes at a time when the central bank is navigating significant financial reforms and restructuring within the banking sector. His deep institutional knowledge is expected to play a vital role in supporting the Governor’s office during this period.
