A suspected thief was beaten to death by an angry mob in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi district on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Sohan Ali, 18, son of Samsuddin of Elamdihi in the upazila.
Abdur Rahim, officer-in-charge of Tanore Police Station, said valuables were stolen from some shops at Ilamdihi Bazar around 11 pm. After that people stand vigil at night.

At one stage, locals caught Sohan red-handed and beat him up mercilessly, leaving him critically injured.
Later, he was taken to Tanore Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries.
The body was taken to the Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital morgue.
