A trucker was stabbed to death allegedly by muggers on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Bishmail area of Savar early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Shamim, driver of a cement company vehicle.
Police said the miscreants intervened his way and attacked with sharp weapon in the early morning, leaving him critically injured.
The muggers also snatched away his mobile phone and cash.
Local rickshaw-pullers rushed him to a nearby hospital at Savar Thana Road where he was declared dead.
On information, Savar Model Police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
As he was murdered in an area under Ashulia Police Station’s jurisdiction, a murder case was filed there.
Officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station Abdul Hannan said drives are underway to arrest the killers.
Locals alleged the Dhaka-Aricha highway has become a mugging hotspot since July last year.
