Two people died by suicide in separate incidents in Faridganj, Chandpur on Wednesday evening, authorities said, with family disputes believed to be the cause.
Police recovered the bodies after receiving reports from both locations. One of the deceased, Sharmin Akter, 21, was a housewife and wife of a Saudi-based expatriate, Mamun Hossain.
Locals reported that she was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her husband’s home in Alonia village. Preliminary investigations suggest she took her life following family discord and a disagreement with her husband.
The second, Sharif Hossain, 35, an electrical goods trader from Border Bazar in Rupsa South Union, was found hanging inside his shop.
Sharif, a resident of Mashimpur village in neighboring Ramganj, was married four to five years ago but had no children. Local officials said family disputes may have triggered his death.
Confirming the incidents, Officer-in-Charge of Faridganj Police, Md Shah Alam, told UNB that both bodies were sent to Chandpur General Hospital for autopsy. Legal procedures regarding the suicides are underway.
