Two people including a woman, died another one injured in a collision between a bus and a CNG-run autorickshaw in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh on Thursday night.
The accident happened around 8pm in the Birrampur area on the Trishal-Madhupur road, said Trishal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monsur Ahmed.
Among the deceased, one was identified as Anufa Begum, 21. The other victim, a man, is estimated to be around 22 years old. Both were passengers of the autorickshaw and residents of Gauripur upazila in the district, he said.
The accident happened when a passenger bus coming from Tarail in Kishoreganj was heading towards Dhaka via Balipara in Trishal. Around 8pm, as it reached the Birrampur area on the Trishal-Balipara regional road, it collided with the autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction, the OC said.
Locals rescued the injured, including the autorickshaw driver, and sent them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Police seized the bus with the help of locals, but the driver managed to flee. Efforts are underway to identify him. Legal proceedings over the incident are ongoing, added the OC.
