Two police officers, including Sub-Inspector (SI) Fahim Faisal Torofdar of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, were injured on Wednesday night after being attacked by relatives of a warranted suspect during an arrest operation in Faridpur .
The other injured officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Karna Kumar Halder, also serves at Faridpur Kotwali Police Station.
The incident occurred around 7:30 pm in the Khodabox Road area of Goalachamot near the suspect's residence. Despite the assault, police managed to arrest the suspect, identified as Rabbi Hasan Bapi, 30, who is wanted under the Narcotics Control Act.
According to police and local sources, SI Fahim, along with ASI Karna Kumar and Selimuzzaman, went to Rabbi Hasan's house to execute the arrest warrant. While apprehending him, Sheikh Rustam, 30, a neighbor of the suspect, punched SI Fahim in the left eye, causing injuries. During the commotion, Rabbi attacked ASI Karna with a sharp weapon, inflicting minor injuries. Both officers received primary medical treatment at a hospital.
Asaduzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the incident and stated that Rabbi Hasan has been taken into custody, along with Sheikh Rustam, who attacked SI Fahim. A new case is being filed against Rabbi and his accomplices for obstructing government duties and assaulting police officers.
