Abdur Rahman Jahangir, special correspondent of United News of Bangladesh (UNB), on Monday received the Victory Day Sommanona Award-2023 from Swadhinata Sangsad.
Sixteen people were given the award in different categories, including, art, culture, music, literature, journalism and business, for their contributions to their respective fields.
Abdur Rahman Jahangir got the award for his outstanding contributions to journalism in Bangladesh for over two decades.
Poet and Bangladesh Bank’s additional director Hasina Mamtaj handed over the awards to the winners in a ceremony-cum discussion programme at a city hotel.
Aminur Rahman, Additional Secretary to Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) Ministry, Engineer Mohammad Hossain, Director General of Power Cell and Dhaka Centre Chairman of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), IEB Executive Officer Sunirmal Mondal, Swadhinata Sangsad vice president Ali Ashraf Akhand and its Secretary General Sahed Ahmed, among others, were present.
Since its establishment in 1991, Swadhinata Sangsad, a non-political social, cultural and intellectual organization, has been working in various forms to inspire the new generation in the spirit of the Liberation War.
The organization also presents the Victory Day Sommanona Award every year to eminent citizens of the country for their contribution to their respective fields.
