A microbus and four tires were stolen from the transport section of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh.
Prof Dr Mohammad Gulzarul Aziz, director of BAU’s Transport Section, said the stolen tires are worth Tk 100,000. However, he did not disclose the price of the microbus, as it is 20–25 years old.
Regarding the theft, Dr Aziz said, “CCTV footage shows that around 5:30 am on Wednesday, an individual wearing a burqa, along with an accomplice, climbed over the back wall of the transport section. They broke the lock of the tire storage room and took four tires, which they loaded onto the provost council’s microbus (Mymensingh-Ch-510015). Later, they cut the lock on the main gate and fled with both the microbus and the tires.”
He also claimed that the security guard on duty was asleep throughout the entire incident.
“As soon as we became aware of the theft, we handed over the CCTV footage to the police and the Detective Branch (DB) and filed a general diary (GD),” Prof Aziz added.
Prof. Dr Md. Ariful Islam, director of BAU’s Security Council, said, “We are aware of the incident. Any theft within the university is thoroughly investigated. If our security personnel are found negligent, strict action will be taken as per university regulations.”
