A 30-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by an Awami League leader in Indachuli village under Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj district for delaying payment of dues at around 2:30 pm on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Bilkis Akter, wife of Abdul Karim, resident of the village.

According to local sources, Nur-e-Alam, president of Ward No. 7 Awami League of Gundhar Union, owed Tk 50,000 from Abdul Karim, husband of the deceased Bilkis Akter. Abdul Karim works as a labourer in a brick kiln in Noakhali.
On Sunday afternoon, accused Nur-e-Alam went to Karim's house to ask for money. At that time, Noor-e-Alam got involved in an argument with Karim's wife Bilkis Akter.

At one stage of the argument, Noor-e-Alam started beating Bilkis Akter, leaving her critically injured. Later locals rescued her but Bilkis Akter died on the way to Karimganj Upazila Health Complex.
Karimganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamsul Alam Siddique confirmed the incident and said police have been sent to the spot.
