A rally of farmers, indigenous people, and women was held in Naogaon to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Ila Mitra, the iconic leader of the Tebhaga movement.
The event was organized by the Socialist Women’s Forum and the Socialist Tenant and Farmers Front.
The rally took place on Saturday afternoon at the central stage near the Shaheed Minar at Mukti Mor, Naogaon town. The program was inaugurated by Comrade Khaliduzzaman, advisor to the central committee of the Bangladesh Socialist Party (BASAD).
The event was presided over by Engr. Shampa Basu, president of the central committee of the Socialist Women’s Forum. Comrade Bazlur Rashid Firoz, general secretary of BASAD’s central committee, delivered the keynote address as the chief guest. The rally was conducted by I. Zainal Abedin Mukul, coordinator of Bangladesh Socialist Party's Naogaon district committee.
Speakers included Prof. Wajed Parvez, vice president of the Socialist Tenant and Farmers Front central committee, Abdul Quddus, general secretary of the same front, Advocate Dilruba Nuri, general secretary of the Socialist Women’s Forum, and Dr. Monisha Chakraborty, secretary of the forum, along with other local leaders.
The speakers highlighted Ila Mitra’s lifelong dedication to building a society free from the exploitation of women. They stressed that farmers, laborers, and indigenous communities are still facing hardships in Bangladesh, and that despite political changes, ordinary working people continue to be exploited and women remain vulnerable.
The rally saw participation from leaders and activists from Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Joypurhat, and Dinajpur districts, reflecting widespread support for Ila Mitra’s vision of social justice and equality.
