A 21-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging at his home in Kundaín village under Panchandar Union in Tanore upazila, Rajshahi, on Tuesday morning, reportedly due to mental distress after his wife left him.
The deceased, Rahim Molla, was the son of Siddique of the same village.
Locals said Rahim hanged himself with a lungi in a room at his house around 10:30 am. Family members discovered him and informed the police.
Tanore police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Locals added that Rahim had remarried after his first wife left him. However, his second wife also left about a month and a half ago, leaving him mentally distraught. It is believed this may have driven him to take his own life.
Officer-in-Charge of Tanore Police Station, SM Masud Parvez, said a sudden-death (UD) case has been filed at the police station, and further legal action will follow after receiving the post-mortem report.
