Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Belkuchi Police Station, said a group of drug-addicted individuals from the area attacked Mizan with a hammer on Wednesday evening, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued him and took him to a hospital in Dhaka, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening while undergoing treatment.
The OC said that a special investigation has been launched, and legal action will be taken once a formal complaint is received. “Those involved will be identified and arrested quickly,” he added.
In response to the killing, residents of the area organized a protest march and public gathering on Sunday morning. Protesters said Mizan was targeted for his active role in fighting against drugs in the community.
