Four people including chief election agent of an independent candidate were injured in an attack allegedly by supporters of Awami League (AL) candidate Shamim Haque who is contesting from Faridpur 3 constituency (Sadar upazila) on Saturday.
Of the injured, the chief agent and also former chairman of Faridpur Zilla Parishad Shamsul Haque Bhola Master was admitted to district’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical College Hospital with a head injury.

Shoyebul Islam, election coordinator of independent candidate AK Azad, alleged that supporters of the AL candidate led by local leader Palash swooped on Bhola Master and others, leaving four people injured in Charmadhabdiya union in the afternoon.
Later, locals rescued the Bhola Master and sent to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Hospital, he said.
Kotwali police station’s Officer-in-charge Hasanuzzaman confirmed the matter saying that police were sent there and legal actions will be taken once complaints are lodged.

Earlier on Saturday noon, independent candidate Azad at a press conference alleged that the boat supporters have been carrying out attacks on his fellows since Friday night.
Moreover, police have been rounding up his supporters from their houses, he said.
Candidate Azad urged the returning officer and the election commissioner to take immediate actions to ensure a smooth election.
