The 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum are set to be held tomorrow. With election enthusiasm at its peak across the country, most students of Dhaka University have left their dormitories to return to their respective hometowns to exercise their voting rights.
In this election, the number of young voters is approximately 45 million. Many of them will be casting their votes for the first time in their lives. As a result, there is noticeable excitement and enthusiasm among young voters. Inspired by this spirit, Dhaka University students are leaving their halls to participate in the election. Currently, only a handful of students remain in the dormitories. Areas that were once lively with students are now almost silent and deserted.

On the occasion of the national election and referendum, the government declared general holidays on February 11 and 12, while February 13 and 14 fall on Friday and Saturday. However, students said that their decision to leave the halls this time is not merely to enjoy the holidays, but primarily driven by their desire to exercise their right to vote. Many students who were unable to vote during the previous government’s controversial elections are now eager to cast their ballots.
Raja Talukder, a student of the Management Department at Dhaka University, said, “This is the first time I am going to vote. I am going home specifically to cast my vote. I hope this election will be free and fair.”
Arman Hossain, a resident of Surja Sen Hall, said, “We want a free, transparent, and participatory election. Our votes should determine our future leadership.”
“I want the administration to play a neutral role. There should be no influence, intimidation, or irregularities. A credible election is the demand of the people,” Arman added.
