His family members, singer Alif Alauddin (daughter) and guitarist Kazi Faisal Ahmed (son-in-law) confirmed the news on Facebook.
The legendary composer was hospitalised in the capital on Saturday in critical condition due to lung complications and was on life support until his death.

First diagnosed with cancer in June 2015, he was taken to Thailand for treatment the following month and again back in 2019. He was also treated for pneumonia and other health problems.
His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at Khilgaon Mosque after Johr prayer. Then, the body will be taken to Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises.
Later, he will be laid to rest at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard, said his daughter Alif Alauddin.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in separate messages, expressed deep shock at the death of Alauddin and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Born on December 24, 1952 - Alauddin had directed music for more than 300 films.
He debuted as a music director with the movie ‘Shondhikkhon’ in 1975.
He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for best music director five times for the films Golapi Ekhon Traine (1978), Sundari (1979), Koshai (1980), Jogajog (1988), and Lakhe Ekta (1990).
He has also won the National Film Award for the best music composer for Laal Doriya (2002) and the best lyrics for Premik (1985).
