Hefazat-e-Islam has strongly condemned any attempts by the Awami League to reorganize, stating that they have no right to do so amidst the ongoing economic crisis exacerbated by rampant corruption and plundering.
In a statement issued to the press today, Hefazat-e-Islam's Amir, Allama Muhibullah Babungari, and General Secretary, Allama Sajeedur Rahman, sharply criticized the remarks made by the Interim Government's Home Affairs Advisor Brigadier General M. Sakhawat Hossain. They accused the Advisor of undermining the sacrifices of countless martyrs by supporting the reorganization of the 'fascist' Awami League.
The Hefazat leaders argued that under the rule of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his successor Sheikh Hasina, the country has seen nothing but misrule. They highlighted the brutal repression during Sheikh Hasina's tenure, including the 2013 Shapla Square massacre and the indiscriminate killings during the student protests of 2024.
They emphasized the need for the nation to eradicate all traces of fascism, including its cultural, political, and educational roots, to prevent any resurgence.
The statement also denounced Brigadier General M. Sakhawat Hossain's call for the reorganization of the Awami League as a betrayal of the bloodshed suffered by numerous students and citizens. Hefazat-e-Islam expressed shock at his comments, accusing him of promoting an agenda akin to the Indian-backed restoration of fascism, and urged him to cease his efforts immediately.
