Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in eight of the nine upazilas of Khagrachhari district to ensure election security ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary polls.
The information was disclosed on Friday during a press briefing at the Panchhari Logang Zone office ground by Panchhari Zone Commander Lt. Col. Md. Robiul Islam PPM (Sena).
Lt. Col. Robiul Islam said BGB will provide security in Panchhari and Dighinala upazilas, helping voters exercise their franchise safely and smoothly. The Panchhari Battalion (3 BGB) will upazilas 26 polling centers, including 25 in Panchhari and one in Babuchhara union of Dighinala.
Overall, the force is directly engaged in election duties in eight upazilas, including six border-adjacent ones, covering over 37,000 voters.
Alongside election duties, BGB is monitoring 21.8 km of border areas to prevent smuggling, drugs and arms trafficking, illegal entry, and other border crimes. Operations are coordinated under the 24 Infantry Division in hill areas of Chattogram.
Lt. Col. Robiul Islam added that BGB personnel underwent special training in three phases from August last year to January this year, covering STX drills, riot control equipment use, and drone operations.
For the election, 48 temporary camps have been set up in Panchhari, and 11 polling centers will receive helipad support. Continuous surveillance will be maintained using night vision, body cameras, and modern equipment.
The BGB will perform its duties with utmost professionalism, honesty, and dedication. Protecting every voter’s right and ensuring a peaceful election environment remain our top priorities, he said.
