BNP candidate Khandakar Abdul Muktadir has taken a commanding lead in Sylhet-1 constituency while a close contest is underway in Sylhet-6.
In Sylhet-1, results from 106 out of 215 polling centres show BNP-nominated candidate Khandakar Muktadir securing 95,276 votes, according to unofficial results.
His nearest rival Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Maulana Habibur Rahman has received 62,510 votes so far.
The current margin of lead stands at 32,766 votes, according to information obtained from candidates’ election agents and relevant offices.
Sylhet-1 constituency comprises Sylhet Sadar upazila and Sylhet City Corporation areas.
The total number of voters in the constituency is 680,946, including 353,186 male voters, 327,747 female voters and 13 third-gender voters.
Meanwhile, in Sylhet-6 (Golapganj-Bianibazar), a neck-and-neck contest is taking place between the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ and ‘Scales’ candidates.
Out of 103 polling centres in the constituency, results from the first 50 centres have been announced.
According to the declared results, BNP candidate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury has secured 32,822 votes, while Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Selim Uddin has received 27,130 votes.
The current margin between the two candidates is 5,692 votes.
