Chuadanga district unit of BNP on Thursday held a press conference protesting what it called a “planned smear campaign” by expatriate YouTuber Elias Hossain against the party.
The briefing was held at the Chuadanga Sahitya Parishad auditorium, where the district BNP’s Organising Secretary, Shafiqul Islam Pitu, read out a written statement.
He alleged that Elias Hossain, whom he termed an “extortionist,” was working to serve the agenda of an anti-liberation group.
“One of our new nomination seekers and his uncle are involved in this conspiracy to damage BNP’s image for their personal gain,” he said.
“Wherever BNP is strong and the chances of winning are high, a faction is trying to spread venom. They are attempting to confuse the party through lies and conspiracies,” Pitu added.
He claimed that the recent video released on Elias Hossain’s YouTube channel was “fabricated and misleading,” intended to create a false impression about money transactions.
“The video contains no proof of extortion—it’s purely propaganda,” he said.
Leaders at the press conference rejected all allegations made in the YouTube video titled ‘Two brothers extorting like in Bangla films’, which accused district BNP General Secretary Sharifuzzaman Sharif and his brother, businessman and philanthropist Shahiduzzaman Torik, of wrongdoing.
They denounced the claims as “false and politically motivated,” reiterating that Sharif was democratically elected through votes of party councillors.
Several district, upazila, and front organisation leaders including Khalid Mahmud Milton, Nazrul Islam Nazoo, Sirajul Islam Moni, Roufun Nahar Rina, Saifur Rashid Jhontu, and Momin Malita were present at the event.
