"We’ve to make our party stronger…many committees couldn’t be constituted due to COVID-19, but their councils were held and steps should be taken to make the committees," she said.
The Prime Minister said this while addressing the Secretaries' meeting of the ruling Awami League at the party’s central office at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue. She joined the meeting virtually from Ganobhaban.
She asked the secretaries of the central committee to discharge their specific duties with sincerity and requested them to go through the election manifesto, economic policy of the party and discuss those.
Sheikh Hasina, also the chief of the ruling Awami League, asked them to find out how many pledges of the party have been implemented and how many can be fulfilled in the coming days.
"If you go through your own subjects, we’ll be able to go a longer way."
Talking about the government-declared Tk 1.03 trillion stimulus packages for various sectors to offset the COVID-19 shock, she said trade and commerce along with development programmes in the country have been able to operate properly due this.
Hasina said the government is constructing 100 economic zones across the country for creating scopes for investment.
The AL chief asked her party central leaders to take care of the economic planning of the government and development programmes across the country so that these could be implemented properly.
"We’ve to do what Bangladesh needs for its betterment and how the people of the country will be in good shape. Because, our works and thinking are pro-people. I hope that all will perform their respective duties with sincerity," she said.
Talking about some by-elections to be held in the coming days, Hasina said as per surveys trust and belief still there in Awmi League as votes for the party in all areas are much higher.
She laid emphasis on remaining united in the coming days so that the party-nominated candidates can win the elections.
About former president of India Pranab Mukherjee’s demise, she said he was a great friend of Bangladesh and the country has lost a trusted friend at his death.
Hasina said Bangladesh is observing a one-day mourning showing respect to this great politician.
Praising the leaders and workers of her party, she said they stood beside the common people in this corona crisis as it is the culture of Awami League to work for humanity.
