Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, Chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), has expressed optimism that the recent bilateral talks between India and Bangladesh will bring positive outcomes for the country.
Speaking to journalists in Bhola on Saturday afternoon, Partho said, “The India-Bangladesh bilateral discussions are a positive development and will bring good results for the nation.”
He visited his constituency in Bhola to attend the 17th death anniversary programme of his father, the late Nazibur Rahman Manzur, former Mayor of Dhaka City, which will be observed on Sunday.
Partho remarked, “This government led by Mr Yunus is a revolutionary one, born out of a mass uprising. Though it wasn’t elected through popular vote, it is still a people’s government. From day one, we have committed to stand beside this government to ensure it does not fail.”
He reiterated the BJP’s longstanding stance on the need for reforms. “We’ve always said reforms are necessary. Major reforms should come through elected representatives of the people. That’s why we’re supporting Mr Yunus in this process,” he said.
Partho added, “I want to believe the next election will be held in December. Necessary reforms will take place. And the reforms that remain will be carried out by the future government elected by the people.”
Highlighting the party’s preparedness, Partho said, “The BJP is now stronger than ever. From June, we will begin constituency-based discussions in preparation for the next national election.”
Among others present at the event were Bhola district BJP President Amirul Islam Ratan, General Secretary Motashim Billah, and other party leaders.
