Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) Vice-President (VP) Abdur Rashid Jitu has joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), while several leaders of different hall student councils at the university have also joined the BNP’s student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
The information was confirmed at a press conference held at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan on Friday morning, where BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi briefed reporters.
Rizvi said JUCSU VP Abdur Rashid Jitu formally joined the BNP, alongside a number of hall parliament leaders who joined Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
The hall council leaders who joined Chhatra Dal are: Ibn-e-Shihab, VP of Nawab Salimullah Hall; Rifat Ahmed Shakil, VP of Al Beruni Hall; GM M Raihan Kabir, VP of A F M Kamaluddin Hall; Amit Banik, VP of Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore Hall; Bubli Ahmed, VP of Nawab Fayzunnesa Hall; Farhana Rithi, VP of Begum Khaleda Zia Hall; and Shahriar Nazim Riyad, General Secretary of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall.
Abdur Rashid Jitu was elected JUCSU vice-president in the last student union election held on September 11 last year. He contested the election from the ‘Swatantra Chhatra Sammilan’ panel.
Currently, Jitu is serving as the convener of the ‘Gano Obbhuthan Rokkhya Andolon’ at Jahangirnagar University.
He is also a student of the 2017–18 academic session (47th batch) at the university’s Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture.
