“Government relief materials are being misappropriated by those who belong to the ruling party while people are crying out for the relief goods,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
He came up with the remark while inaugurating a relief distribution programme in the capital’s Rajarbagh area arranged by a social organisation, ‘Future of Bangladesh’.
The BNP leader said the nurses at Kuwait Moitree Hospital are not getting food, but the ruling party men are stockpiling rice, procured with public money, at their houses.
He said though all are pressing for united and coordinated efforts to tackle the coronavirus situation, the government is showing its hegemony and obstinacy and creating scope for the ruling party men to indulge in plundering at his crisis period.
Rizvi said people are waiting for relief at the rail stations and going out to roads amid the heatwave, but the unscrupulous people are plundering the relief materials, depriving the needy ones. “It can’t be allowed to continue.”
He said their party thinks all parties should now work together to mitigate the sufferings of people and protect them from the deadly virus.
The BNP leader called upon the Prime Minister to take steps so that the corona situation can be tackled with the coordinated efforts and food can be reached to the houses of needy people checking irregularities.
