BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Thursday took to Facebook to mark his return to Bangladesh after 17 years in exile, posting, ‘Finally in Sylhet, on Bangladeshi soil.’
The post was shared shortly after he arrived at Sylhet Osmani International Airport, ending a 6,314-day absence.
He also shared photographs with his wife Zubaida Rahman, and daughter Zaima Rahman from the airport on his verified Facebook account.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Tarique Rahman and his entourage landed at the airport at 9:57am.
Sources said the aircraft was scheduled to remain in Sylhet for about an hour before departing for Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as BG-202, had departed London’s Heathrow Airport the previous evening at 12:23am BST. A total of 192 passengers arrived from London on the flight, of whom 107 were scheduled to continue to Dhaka.
