Two leaders of the Bangladesh Socialist Party (BSP) were arrested in Sylhet on Saturday over incidents of vehicle vandalism during a rickshaw drivers’ protest.
The arrested leaders were identified as Abu Zafar, convener of BSP Sylhet district, and Pronab Jyoti Palak, member secretary of BSP Sylhet district.
According to police, the leaders were detained around 2:30 pm from their party office in Ambarkhana by DB police.
They were later taken to Sylhet Kotwali Police Station and presented before court under two separate cases.
Earlier, around 12 pm on Saturday, the two leaders attended a gathering demanding permission for battery-run rickshaw operations.

Saiful Islam, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, confirmed the arrests.
BSP leader Najikul Islam Rana claimed the arrests were based on “completely false cases.”
“Comrade Abu Zafar was attending a conference in Dhaka on the day of the incident, which was also attended by two government advisors,” he added.
