Imranur Rahman, the fastest man in Bangladesh for the last three consecutive times, failed to retain the gold medal as he finished fourth in the final of his favourite 60-metre sprint of the Asian Indoor Athletics held in the Iranian capital Tehran on Monday.
The 30-year-old England-based Bangladeshi athlete Imranur brought a laurel for the country as the first Bangladeshi athlete to win the first-ever Asian gold medal in the 60-metre sprint of the 10th Asian Indoor Athletics held in Astana, Kazakhstan, in February last year.

In the eight-man event's final on Monday, Imranur miserably finished fourth with a worse timing of 6.67 seconds.
Earlier on Sunday, Imranur competed in the event's heat number three to finish second with a timing of 6.62 seconds. He improved his timing to 6.60 seconds in the semifinal but was deprived of a medal, clocking 6.67 seconds in the final.

He won the event gold medal in the last version of the meet, clocking 6.59 seconds last year.
Ali Anwar of Oman clinched the event's gold medal. with a timing of 6.52 seconds, Shuhei Tada of Japan won the silver medal, clocking 6.56 seconds while Jo Kum Ryong of North Korea won the bronze medal with a timing of 6.66 seconds.

Meanwhile, Mahfuzur Rahman of Bangladesh clinched a bronze medal in the high jump, the second medal for the country in the ongoing Asian Indoor Games, jumping a height of 2.15 metres in Tehran on Monday.
This was the second medal for Bangladesh in the ongoing games after Jahir Rayhan's silver medal in the 400-metre sprints on Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday, Mohammad Jahir Rayhan brought laurel for Bangladesh by clinching the first ever silver medal for Bangladesh in the men's 400-metre sprint of the ongoing Asian Indoor Athletics with a timing of 48.10 seconds.
Five athletes represented Bangladesh in the games: Imranur Rahman, Rakibul Hasan (60-metre sprint), Zahir Raihan (400-metre sprint) , Mahfuzur Rahman (high jump), and Shirin Akhter (60-metre sprint).
