The change in government following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina has brought about a wave of changes in every sector of Bangladesh, including the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Nazmul Hassan Papon, the current President of the BCB, has expressed his willingness to step down from his position.
It has been confirmed that he communicated this decision to a senior BCB director over the phone from abroad. A Dhaka-based newspaper reported that Papon might have fled to London after the fall of the previous government by a popular uprising.
In a recent meeting, attended by 7-8 active BCB directors, one of them revealed Papon’s intention to resign.
However, according to the BCB constitution, he must formally submit his resignation to the board, which would then need to be approved in a board meeting.
Some directors expressed concerns that any significant changes in the BCB could negatively impact Bangladesh's hosting of the Women's T20 World Cup in October. The ICC is expected to make a final decision on August 20 regarding the tournament's venue.
