Bashundhara Kings clinched Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football title for a record 5th consecutive time with three matches to spare beating Federation Cup champions Dhaka Mohammedan SC by 2-1 goals at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Saturday.
With the day's feat, Bashundhara Kings not only earned a rare feat in the league history as the first team to win the BPL title for the 5th time in a row securing 40 points from 15 matches, but took sweet revenge for their lone defeat in the league against Dhaka Mohammedan SC in the first phase
Earlier, star studded Basundhara Kings clinched the BPL title for the 4th consecutive times from 2018-2019 season to 2022-23 season, except 2019-2020 season, when BPL was abandoned due to Covid-19 Pandemic.
Kings nearest rival Dhaka Mohammedan SC are in the distant 2nd place with 28 points from 15 encounters and battling for the runners-up position with Dhaka Abahani Ltd, which bagged 26 points from 15 outings.
In the day's vital match, Brazilian striker Dorielton Gomes put the Kings ahead in the 19th minute by a Miguel pass (1-0) while he again doubled the Kings margin in the 52nd minute by a good header (2-0).

With the day's feat, Dorielton Games of Brazil emerged as the top scorer in the ongoing league jointly with Dhaka Mohammedan's Malian forward Souleymane Diabate, scoring 13 goals each.
Midfielder Minhajul Abedin Ballu scored the lone goal for the traditional black and white Mohammedan SC in the 65th minute (2-1).
Incidentally, it was the first defeat for Mohammedan SC in the league.
The day's another match between Sheikh Jamal DC and Chittagong Abahani Limted ended in a goalless draw at the Bir Shreshtha Ft. Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj Saturday afternoon.
In the day's other match, Fortis FC shared points with bottom-placed Brothers Union Club in 1-1 affairs at the Muktijoddha Smrity Stadium in Rajshahi on Saturday afternoon.
Ganbian forward Omar Sarr put Fortis FC ahead in the 39th minute (1-0) while Akmol Hossain Noyon leveled the margin for Brothers Union in the 73rd minute (1-1).
Bangladesh suffer clean sweep against India
After the day's 15th round matches, Chittagong Abahani Ltd remained at the 5th slot with 18 points, Fortis FC in the 6th place with 17 points, Sheikh Jamal DC in the 7th place with 16 while Brothers Union Club remained at the bottom with seven points.
