Dainik Inqilab emerged as the new champions in the Walton-Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) six-a-side Media Football Tournament, dethroning Channel i by 3-1 goals in the tiebreaker at the Shaheed (Capt) M Monsur Ali National Handball Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The keenly contested final match between defending champions Channel i and the emerging force Dainik Inqilab ended in a goalless draw in the stipulated 20 minutes, and that forced the match into a tiebreaking session.
DRU Football: Channel i, ATN News, Deepto TV, Dainik Inqilab reach semifinals
Earlier in the day's semifinals, Dainik Inqilab fought hard to qualify for the dream final, eliminating Deepto TV by a 1-0 goal, while the stronger Channel i easily booked a seat for the final, defeating ATN News by 2-0 goals, both in the morning.
Faruk Hossain scored the match-winner for Dainik Inqilab, while Rahul netted both goals for Channel i in the semifinals.
Later, Faruk of Inqilab was adjudged the best player of the final, and Rahul Roy of Channel i was named the best player of the tournament.
Walton-DRU Media Football advances to quarter-finals on Sunday
Rahul Roy and Imrul Kayes of Bangladesh were named the highest scorers of the tournament, scoring eight goals each.
Masum Mustahid, a guest player for Inqilab, was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
The adviser of the Sheikh Russell National Shisu Kishore Parishad and director of China-Bangla Ceremics, former lawmaker Sirajul Islam Mollah, witnessed the day's final as the chief guest and later distributed the prizes.
President of Jatiya Press Club (JPC) Farida Yesmin, JPC General Secretary Shyomol Dutta, Senior Executive Director of the meet's sponsor Walton FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn, General Secretary of the Handball Federation Asaduzzaman Kohinoor,
DRU President Morsalin Nomani, General Secretary Moinul Hasan Sohel, and Sports Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, among others, were present at the day's prize distribution ceremony.

Earlier in Monday's quarterfinals, ATN News eliminated Ekattor TV, beating them by 2-1 goals in tiebreaker; defending champions Channel i beat Banglavision by 2-1 goals; Deepto TV outplayed ATN Bangla by 3-0 goals while Inqilab defeated NTV by 2-1 goals.
Fifty media houses from different newspapers, news agencies, and electronics media took part in the tournament, exclusive to journalists.
