The Bangladesh Junior (U-21) Hockey team received a cash award of Tk five lac from the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) to qualify for the FIH Hockey Junior World Cup for the first time.
BHF President and Chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, accompanied by other federation officials, handed over the cash award to the hockey team during a reception accorded to them at Falcon Hall here Thursday afternoon.
Soon after returning home from Oman this morning, the players and coaching staff of the Bangladesh Jr Hockey team were directly taken to BAF Falcon Hall in the capital, where the Hockey Federation accorded reception.
The BHF officials also took part in a photo session with the proud son of the soil and handed over cash award of Taka five lakh to the hockey team.
The Bangladesh junior hockey team lost only one match, playing six matches.
The Bangladesh men's hockey team made history by qualifying for the Men's Junior World Cup for the first time, outplaying Thailand by 7-2 goals in a place-deciding match of the Junior Asia Cup in Oman last Tuesday.
Bangladesh, which finally finished fifth in 10-team continental hockey, beat China by 6-3 goals in the 5th-6th place deciding match on Wednesday.
Earlier, Bangladesh made a good start in the tournament, beating host Oman by 3-1 goals, but suffered a massive 0-6 goals defeat against Pakistan in their second match.
The boys in red and green came from behind, forcing Malaysia to play a 2-2 goal draw in their third match, and they also played a 1-1 draw with China in their last group match.
