Army’s athletes won 16 gold, 13 silver and 17 bronze medals in the three-day event held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital.
Bangladesh Navy finished second winning 15 gold, 21 silver and 9 bronzes while Bangladesh Jail (Prison Directorate) came in at third with two gold, one silver and four bronze medals.
Four new national records were made in the meet– three of them by Bangladesh Navy athletes in men’s 100-meter sprint (Ismail Hossain), men’s shot put (Ibrahim Hossain) and women’s 200-meter sprint (Shohagi Akhter).
Shohagi made the day’s only record with a timing of 25.06 seconds to better the event’s previous record of Zakira Sultana in 2010.
BKSP athlete Zahir Raihan made another record in men’s 400-meter run on Friday. Zahir also won men’s 200-meter gold on the closing day and was adjudged the best men’s athlete of the meet.
Sumi Akhter of Bangladesh Army was adjudged the best women’s athlete of the meet securing four individual gold medals.
On the opening day, Navy’s Ismail emerged as the fastest man of the country by clinching men’s 100-metre gold in 10.2 seconds, a new national record.
Celebrated Navy athlete Shirin Akter maintained her fastest women crown for the eighth time in a row. She finished the 100-metre sprint in 11.8 seconds.
With the feat, Shirin made history by winning the crown for the eighth time to break Lovely Akhter’s previous record of seven times.
A total of 422 athletes – 319 men and 103 women – of 49 teams from various districts, divisions, universities, education boards, physical education colleges, BJMC, BKSP and other affiliated bodies took part in the three-day meet.
They competed in 36 events – 22 for men and 14 for women.
