Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League is slated to begin on March 15 likely in Cox’s Bazar
The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) is holding this year’s inter-club player transfer formalities with old format based on the mutual discussions between cricketers and the clubs as per demand of the cricketers, instead of the last year’s policy of player by choice.
The first day of player transfer took place at the CCDM office here from 11am to 4pm. It will continue for next two days.
National team cricketers will take part in the player transfer formalities on March 5 in Sylhet as they are now in the city to play the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
Defending champions Abahani Limited roped in six cricketers on the first day including two cricketers of the ICC U-19 World Cup champions Bangladesh team Tanzim Hasan Shakib and Aminul Islam Biplob.
Leading cricketers like former national captain Mohammad Ashraful, veteran spinner Abdur Razzak and pacer Taskin Ahmed appeared on the day.
Mohammad Ashraful joined Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club from Mohammedan Sporting Club while Abdur Razzak and Taskin Ahmed signed for Dhaka Mohammedan SC leaving Prime Bank CC and Legend of Legends of Rupganj respectively.
“I think this system of player transfer is suitable for the players, although it is for some players to get a team, this competition is good for our cricket. I wasn’t in good touch in the last season of the Dhaka League, but this time, I am hopeful of doing well for Sheikh Jamal,” Ashraful told the media.
“I am lucky that I have got a chance to play for Mohammedan. It’s a big team. I always wanted to play for them. But you cannot get chance always due to financial issues or team combinations,” Abdur Razzak told the media after signing for Mohammedan.
