The Bangladesh cricket team commenced their preliminary camp ahead of the Asia Cup, to be held in August in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
A total of 32 players have been called up to the camp. Mahmudullah Riyad, who has been out of the national set-up for the last few months, is included in the preliminary squad along with Soumya Sarkar.
While Mahmudullah played his last international match in March this year, Soumya played his in November 2022.

Mahmudullah, the right-handed all-rounder, was added considering his experience. However, it’s not clear whether he will be part of the final squad for the Asia Cup.
Tamim Iqbal, who had recently announced his retirement and withdrew it within 24 hours, has also been included in the squad. He arrived in Dhaka from London on Monday after seeing a doctor for his injury and is expected to join the camp soon.
“We are starting the camp with 32 players, and they will have to go through a fitness test,” Minhazul Abedin, the chief selector, said on Sunday. “We will narrow down the team after the fitness test.”

After a week-long fitness camp, the Tigers will begin their skill camp on August 8th.
Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, Shoriful Islam, Afif Hossain, and Towhid Hirdoy are also part of this camp, but they are unable to join from the beginning as they are busy playing in foreign leagues. While Litton and Afif are in Canada for Global T20, the others are busy in the Lankan Premier League.
Taskin Ahmed and Mushfiqur Rahim will be joining the camp soon. They recently participated in the Afro Zim T10 league.
With this camp, Bangladesh is also preparing for the World Cup, which is scheduled to be played later this year in India.
