A shooting at a school in Graz, Austria, on Tuesday left eight people dead, including the suspected shooter, according to the city’s mayor.
Mayor Elke Kahr called the incident a “terrible tragedy,” as reported by the Austria Press Agency. The victims include seven students and one adult, with several others hospitalized due to injuries.
Authorities, including special forces, responded to the BORG Dreierschützengasse high school following an emergency call around 10 a.m. By 11:30 a.m., police announced on social media platform X that the school had been evacuated and all individuals had been moved to a secure location. They confirmed that the situation was under control and there was no ongoing threat.
Graz, Austria’s second-largest city, is located in the southeast and has a population of approximately 300,000.
