A case has been filed against 18 people in connection with the collision between two launches on the Meghna River in Chandpur’s Haimchar on Friday.
On Sunday afternoon, four employees of the launch, Adventure-. who were arrested in the case were produced before a Chandpur court.
The court sent them to district jail.
The accused are Mintu, Sohel, Mohin Howlader and Moniruzzaman.
Earlier, on Saturday night, BIWTA Chandpur River Port Deputy Director (Traffic) Babulal Baidya, filed the case with Haimchar Police Station.
The eight named accused are Md Firoz Khan, 53, Md Kamal Hossain, 55, Md Monirul Islam, 43, Md Sultan Khan, 45, Md Mintu, 28, Md Sohel, 40, Mohin Howlader, 25, and Md Moniruzzaman, 40. All of them are employees of the launches MV Zakir Samrat-3 and Adventure-9.
The case also names eight to 10 unidentified accused.
Haimchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Nazmul Hasan said the case filed on behalf of BIWTA Chandpur River Port, will be investigated and further legal proceedings carried out by the river police.
Assistant Superintendent of Police of Chandpur River Police region Imtiaz Ahmed said the four arrested accused of Adventure-9 were brought to Chandpur River Police Station from Jhalakathi on Saturday and produced before the court on Sunday.
Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused, he added.
Earlier, on Thursday night, dense fog led to a collision between the Dhaka-bound MV Zakir Samrat-3 and the Barishal-bound Adventure-9 on the Meghna River, leaving four passengers, including a woman, dead and several others injured.
