Two male nurses of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SMCH) have been detained for interrogation on charges of embezzlement of Tk 6 lakh from another nurse.
The hospital director Brig Gen Dr Mahbubul Alam Bhuiya confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday.
The detainees are Sumon and Aminul. One of them works in the emergency department of the hospital, while the other works in an external department, said the hospital director.
The hospital director said the president of the Nursing Association, Shamima, initially informed him that nurse Aminul had been taken into custody by men in plain clothes regarding irregular transactions. Subsequently, relevant personnel from the intelligence agency contacted him, revealing that they had apprehended Aminul and Sumon for interrogation, involving an amount of six lakh taka related to unauthorized transactions.
The male nurses were detained based on information related to a nurse's arrears bill, said Brig Gen Mahbubul.
Responding to various questions from journalists, the hospital director added that various broker gangs are active in influencing the hospital to gain advantages, a fact known to all. However, without appropriate evidence, the authorities cannot take any action. The intelligence agency is currently working on this matter.
He mentioned that in the case of the arrest involving six lakh taka, a board will be formed by the hospital authorities to investigate the entire incident. Preparations for the case are underway, as confirmed by the hospital director.
The hospital director added that the hospital authorities will form a board to investigate the matter based on intelligence information about Aminul and Sumon and that preparations are underway to file a case in this regard.
