Three construction workers, including two siblings, died and two others were injured after being electrocuted on the banks of the Buriganga River in Hazaribagh area on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Jhoru Sheikh, 45, his brother Saiful Sheikh, 35, and Monjurul Islam, 35.
Ekram Ali, officer-in-charge of Hazaribagh Police Station, said the incident took place around 11pm when workers were carrying out piling work for the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) boundary pillar on the bank of the river.
Five workers were electrocuted when a pillar they were carrying came in touch with a high-voltage electric wire.
The three men were killed on the spot and two others were critically injured.
The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
