Police have detained a female abductor and rescued four children in Rangpur.

The woman, identified as 28-year-old Aduri Begum, wife of Mansur Ali from Fakirchar village in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram, was apprehended near Rangpur Railway Station at around 10:15 pm on Friday (March 28).

Shankar Ganguly, Superintendent of Rangpur Railway Station, said they suspect that the children were being taken to be trafficked.

According to the victims' family, on Thursday (March 27), Aduri Begum arrived at a house in Tapodhan village of Ward No. 7 in Rangpur, seeking shelter. The homeowner, Ashikul Islam, accommodated her. She stayed overnight, had sehri, and remained at the house throughout Friday. After iftar in the evening, she disappeared with four children, aged between six and ten. The children's guardians immediately informed the police upon realizing their absence.

According to the police, law enforcement deployed personnel at key locations, including railway stations and bus terminals. Shortly after, locals spotted the woman and informed the police. The police then arrived, rescued the children, and took the woman into custody.

Abul Kalam, In-charge of Rangpur Railway Police Outpost, said, Aduri Begum was detained and four children were rescued. The rescued children have been reunited with their families, while legal proceedings against the suspect are ongoing.

Majid Ali, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner, said that an investigation is underway to determine if others were involved in the incident.
