At least eight members of a family were seriously injured in a machete attack by rivals in Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the afternoon in the Madhyapara area of Balakair village.
The injured include Shahid Molla (40), his mother Pachi Begum (70), sister Kamona Begum (45), brother Touhid Molla (38), sister-in-law Mukta Begum (37), nephew Sakib Molla (16), and two relatives Imam Hasan (20) and Sajjad Hossain Mahin (15).
According to family members, the clash began over a minor dispute involving verbal abuse. Witnesses and victims alleged that a group led by Turja Molla, along with several others, attacked the family with sharp weapons and beat them indiscriminately.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital, where several are under close observation.
Officer-in-Charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Md Anichur Rahman said no complaint had been filed yet, adding that legal action would be taken once a case is lodged.
