“Traders under the DSCC areas will have to sell onion at the government-fixed price. If there’s any deviation, necessary legal steps will be taken against them through mobile courts,” he said while visiting Palashi Kitchen Market at noon.
The DSCC has launched mobile court drives at kitchen markets to arrest the skyrocketing onion price, Khokon said, adding that drives will continue until the price comes under a tolerable level.

He assured that the onion price will come down soon and urged commoners not to worry in this regard. “We’ll control the market through a strong monitoring,” he said.
The DSCC mayor also urged people not to buy onion more than their everyday need, saying it will create pressure on the supply chain.
Turning to wholesale onion traders, he said some dishonest traders of Karwanbazar and Shyam Bazar have the tendency to hoard onions, warning that necessary legal measures will be taken if anyone stockpiles onions illegally.
