Bangladesh Embassy in Egypt observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day with due dignity and solemnity at the embassy building in Cairo on Thursday.
Embassy officials participated in the event organised at the Bangabandhu Corner Conference Room of the Embassy.
The programme started with recitation from the Holy Quran.
The message sent by the President and the Prime Minister on the occasion of the Martyred Intellectuals Day was read out.
Ambassador Samina Naj first paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the special discussion meeting organised on the occasion of the day. Besides, she paid respect to all the martyred freedom fighters including martyred intellectuals.
The ambassador said that the brutal killing of famous intellectuals of the country on this day (December 14) was an irreparable loss for the nation.
“By observing this day we remember them deeply and highlight their contribution to our national life, remember their sacrifice and history of sacrifice for freedom”, she added.
Special prayer was offered at the function seeking blessing for Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his martyred family members, intellectuals martyred in the war of Independence and other martyred freedom fighters.
