The messages issued by the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out by the Mission officials. A documentary on the Liberation War of Bangladesh was also screened at the event.
In his speech, the High Commissioner reverently recalled Bangabandhu’s dynamic leadership and the unparalleled bravery of the heroic freedom fighters in the various bloody struggles that took place on the way to the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent and a sovereign state.
He said, “The main goal of the Liberation War was to build a liberal, developed, contributing, egalitarian and democratic state through complete emancipation. We must sharpen our collective vows and commitments to achieve that aspirational goal.”
He also shed light on Bangladesh’s impressive social and economic progress made over the last decade-and-a-half under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He called upon all to contribute to the development of Bangladesh by holding the noble spirit of victory and the ideals of Bangabandhu in their hearts.
Minister (Consular) Selim Md. Jahangir also participated in the discussion and highlighted the significance of the day.
After the discussion session, a special prayer was offered for the salvation of the souls of the Father of the Nation and all the martyrs who played a historical role in all stages of movements for independence of Bangladesh and for peace, progress and prosperity of the country. Officials and employees from the Bangladesh High Commission and expatriate Bangladeshis were present at the event.
As December 16 falls on a weekend this year, a special reception will be organized on December 18, 2023 at the High Commission premises on the occasion of the Victory Day.
Among others, eminent political leaders of the host country, high-ranking officials, foreign diplomats based in New Delhi and expatriate Bangladeshis are expected to attend the reception.
