The programme of the 49th anniversary of the Independence Day of Bangladesh started in the morning with hoisting the national flag by the Head of the Chancery Dr. Ziaul Abedin.
A one-minute silence was observed, and special prayer was offered in memory of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members and the valiant freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifice in 1971 for the freedom of Bangladesh.
Later at the Bangabandhu Auditorium of the embassy a wreath was placed at the portrait by Dr. Abedin and other officials of the mission, said a media release.
Messages to mark the day given by President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs was read out to the audiences.
Video documentaries on the life of Bangabandhu and the development of Bangladesh were screened at the programme.
Commemorating the day special supplements in the Japanese newspapers were published.
The mission also observed the Genocide Day-2020 with due respect on Wednesday.
