Teachers of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) observed a half-day work assentation on Tuesday, the first working day after the 12-day Eid vacation, demanding withdrawl of the notification issued by Ministry of Finance on the universal pension scheme.
According to a statement issued by Professor Dr. Tanvir Rahman, general secretary of the BAU Teachers' Association, teachers will also observe work abstention from 8 am to 1 pm on June 26th and 27th.
Additionally, administrative buildings on the campus will be closed from 11 am to 1 pm.
Besides, full-day work abstention will be observed on Sunday (June 30), except for essential final exams, which will proceed as scheduled.
Dr. M. Rafiqul Islam Sardar, president of the university’s Teachers' Association, said that all BAU teachers will jointly observe a half-day work abstention until June 27 and a full-day strike on June 30.
If their demands are not met by June 30th, solidarity will be extended with the federation's decision, and classes and exams will be postponed until July 1st, he said.
On March 13th, the Ministry of Finance issued a notification on universal pension scheme, prompting protests from the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association (FBUTA).
